CCSO Warrant Sweep – 17 Arrested

17 Fugitives Arrested/ 19 Warrants served

Officers Target Domestic-Related Offenses as Part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Charles County warrant sweep

CCSO warrant officers review open warrants

Members of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office Domestic Violence Unit, Child Support Unit and Warrant Fugitive Unit recently participated in the National Family Violence Apprehension Detail – a nationwide event in which law enforcement agencies select one day in October to focus on serving warrants relating to domestic violence. This year’s warrant sweep took place on October 22 and yielded 17 arrests and 19 warrants served.

Prior to the operation, officers reached out to individuals with open warrants and encouraged them to turn themselves in. Seven people responded to the CCSO warrant office where the warrants were served. Charges in those cases included telephone misuse, violations of protective orders, assaults, thefts and non-support.

Later, officers were joined by members of the Maryland State Police and the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office to serve the remaining open warrants. During the operation, officers located and arrested ten fugitives who had warrants for crimes such as destruction of property, failure to appear for child support charges, violation of probation regarding an assault, and second-degree assault.

Sgt. J. Carlson, a supervisor in charge of the warrant sweep said operations like this are important. “These types of offenses have a serious impact on victims but the offenders are sometimes difficult to locate. During this sweep, our officers coordinated information and combined resources with other law enforcement agencies to locate these individuals, bringing a sense of justice to the victims of these crimes.”
