CC Sheriff OfficeThe Charles County Sheriff’s Office Automated Speed Enforcement Unit will be adding Berry Middle School, 10100 Berry Road in Waldorf, to the list of school zones in which automated speed enforcement cameras can be activated.

The CCSO has a total of three mobile cameras which are rotated, generally, on a weekly basis to approved school zones including: Westlake High School, William B. Wade Elementary School, Maurice J. McDonough High School, Dr. James Craik Elementary School and Malcolm Elementary School. In addition, speed cameras will be returned to rotation at Daniel of St. Thomas Jenifer Elementary School in the 11100 block of Berry Road and General Smallwood Middle School in the 4900 block of Indian Head Highway in Indian Head. As a courtesy, the locations of the cameras are posted weekly on the sheriff’s office facebook page. In addition:

·         Cameras are activated Monday through Friday, including holidays and summer, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the exception of Wade Elementary which operates from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.

·         Violators will only receive a citation if they are traveling 12 mph or more over the posted speed limit.

·         A school zone speed camera violation is a $40 fine with no points.

·         Citations are issued to the registered owner of the vehicle.
