Hit/Run Driver Who Killed Marine

Reward Offered In Search For Hit/Run Driver Who Killed Marine

(THURMONT, MD) — A reward is now being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person driving the vehicle who fatally injured a U.S. Marine late Tuesday night in a hit and run crash in Frederick County.

A reward of $1,000 is being offered to the person who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the hit and run driver who struck and killed U.S. Marine Corporal William Ferrell, 21, of Carthage, N.C.  Ferrell was struck along the northbound shoulder of Rt. 15, north of Auburn Road, in Thurmont, shortly before 11:00 p.m. on September 29, 2015.

Maryland State Police Crash Team investigators continue to process evidence from the crash.  State and local police in both Maryland and Pennsylvania are involved in the search for the vehicle and driver involved.  Police believe the vehicle was likely a heavy duty pickup truck that was pulling a car hauler trailer, although the possibility remains the trailer was being pulled by a truck tractor.  The truck should have obvious damage to the passenger side of the vehicle.

Ferrell had pulled onto the shoulder of the highway in his Nissan pickup to help a disabled motorist.  Investigators have determined Ferrell had put on a reflective vest and activated white emergency strobe lights on his truck in an attempt to increase the level of safety on the scene for himself and the disabled motorist.

Anyone with information about the person or vehicle involved in this fatal hit and run crash is urged to contact Maryland State Police at the Frederick Barrack, at 301-600-4151 and speak with the duty officer.  The reward money is being provided by a donor who wishes to remain anonymous.
