CCSO K-9 Teams Recognized for Outstanding Work in 2014
On August 29, 2015, several Charles County Sheriff’s Office K-9 teams were honored by the United States Police Canine Association, Inc. (USPCA) at the Region III Annual Awards Banquet for 2014. The USPCA was established in 1971 when the Police K-9 Association and the United States K-9 Association merged. It is the largest and oldest active organization of its kind.
Teams received the following awards for competitions which took place in 2014:
- Narcotics Detector, March 15, 2014, Herndon, VA:
- 1st Place: Sgt. Ralph Nasatka & K9 Erno
- 2nd Place (Tie): Cpl. Calvin Roberts & K9 Rex
- 1st Place Team: Sgt. Ralph Nasatka & K9 Erno, M/Cpl. John Freeman & K9 Brix, Cpl. Calvin Roberts & K9 Rex
- Patrol Dog 1 Certification, April 6, 2014, Alexandria, VA, 5th Place:
- M/Cpl. John Freeman & K9 Brix
- Region III Triple Crown Awards:
- M/Cpl. John Freeman & K9 Brix
- Pfc. Colby Shaw & K9 Denny
- Pfc. Claude Clevenger & K9 Eno
- Pfc. Larry Blake & K9 Max
Pfc. Darin Behm and Pfc. Claude Clevenger along with K9s Ryker and Eno were also recognized for a patrol case in May of 2014, during which three attempted murder suspects were successfully tracked and taken into custody.
“Our K9 teams continue to set a standard of excellent police work and we are very proud of what they accomplish for this agency on a day-to-day basis,” said Sheriff Berry. “Their exceptional dedication and achievements deserve to be recognized.”
