POLICE ARREST WOMAN RESPONSIBLE FOR BOMB THREAT

MD State PoliceMaryland State Police investigators arrested a Carroll County woman last night (7/21/14) for a bomb threat at the Carroll County courthouse.

The accused is identified as Myra Marcy Baird, 56, of the 4000 block of Woodsmen Drive in Hampstead, Maryland. Baird is charged with arson, conspiracy to commit arson and providing a false statement of destructive device. Baird is currently at the Carroll County Detention Center. She faces up to ten years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines.

Yesterday morning at approximately 9:30 a.m., a clerk at the District Court of Maryland of Carroll County in Westminster received a bomb threat via telephone. The caller told the clerk there was a bomb in the building. The District Courthouse and the Circuit Courthouse were immediately evacuated.

Troopers from the Maryland State Police, deputies from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, and police from the Westminster City Police Department responded to the scene to assist with the evacuation. K-9 units from the Maryland State Police and Carroll County Sheriff’s Office began searching the building for explosive devices. Four hours later, after a thorough search of the buildings, the courthouses were considered safe and reopened.

The Maryland State Police investigation led to Baird as the initiator of the phone call. At 10:30 p.m. yesterday evening, Baird was arrested at her home without incident and transported to the Carroll County Detention Center.
