SEPTEMBER EVENTS AT THE CALVERT MARINE MUSEUM

We hope to see you in September at the Calvert Marine Museum. Activities and programs are offered for all members of the family.

Friday, September 5 First Free Friday

The museum is open and free to the public from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with docents in every gallery. Commandant’s Combo from the Annapolis Naval Academy will perform in the Harms Gallery at 6:00 p.m. Enjoy free 30-minute cruises on the Wm. B. Tennison.

 

Saturday, September 6 – Maritime Performance Series and the Celtic Society of Southern Maryland present Ocean Quartet: 7:30 p.m. in the Harms Gallery. This is Celtic music for ancient moderns. Afternoon workshops will be offered from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.: Scottish Fiddle Tune Teach-in by Andrew Dodds; Songs of the Supernatural from the Celtic Tradition by Stephen Winick; Writing New Celtic Songs that Sound Old by Jennifer Cutting, and DADGAD Open Tuning: Guitar for Celtic Song and Tune Accompaniment by Lisa Moscatiello. Saturday, September 6Solomons Island Kite Day

10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Celebrate our annual Solomons Island Kite Day with Wings Over Washington Kite Club. Bring your own kite or make one at the museum. Kite kits will be on sale for $5 each, cash only. This free vent is in the field across from the museum. General museum admission applies for visitation to the exhibition gallery.

Saturday, September 13Dee of St. Mary’s Public Sail

2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Experience the Patuxent River aboard an historic Chesapeake workboat. Enjoy a two-hour public sail aboard the Dee of St. Mary’s skipjack leaving from the Lore Oyster House. Fee is $25, 12 and up, $15 for children 8 – 12 years. No children under 8 please. Call 410-326-2042, ext. 41 to register. Preregistration required; space is limited.

 

Saturday, September 13 – Fossil Club Lecture

2:30 p.m. in the Harms Gallery. FOSSIL – A National Network of Amateur and Professional Paleontologists in the U.S. presented by Dr. Bruce MacFadden of the Florida Museum of Natural History. Free.

 

Wednesday, September 17 Arrrrgh… It’s Pirate Day!

Come dressed as a pirate, hear pirate stories, sing sea chanteys, make a pirate hat, learn to talk like a pirate, play Treasure Island, and walk the plank on our pirate ship. Regular museum admission applies.

 

Thursday, September 25Little Minnows
