Friday, April 1 – First Free Friday

5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The museum is open and FREE to the public with docents in every gallery. Enjoy entertainment by the Redwine Jazz Group in the Harms Gallery from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. The Drum Point Lighthouse and Museum Store are open.

 

Tuesday, April 5, Thursday, April 7 and Wednesday, April 13 – Sea Squirts
10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. O is for OTTER!  Visit Squeak, our playful river otter, listen to a story, and have fun with an otter obstacle course. Free drop-in program for children 18-months to three years and their caregivers.

 

Saturday, April 9 Chance, Necessity, and the Origins of Life

3:00 p.m. in the Harms Gallery. PEM Talks presents Dr. Robert Hazen speaking on Chance, Necessity, and the Origins of Life. Dr. Robert M. Hazen, a Senior Staff Scientist at the Carnegie Institution of Washington’s Geophysical Laboratory, shares his research showing that over a billion years, the chemical richness of Earth’s early environment contributed to bringing about the origin of life. FREE talk.

 

Wednesday, April 20 Homeschool Day

10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Ideal for ages 5 – 12 years old. CMM is partnering with the Eastport Yacht Club Foundation. Special scheduled stations set up throughout the museum invite students to investigate Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) concepts.  This program will help students explore how simple machines make work easier, how much tide affects navigation and the impacts of invasive species on the local ecosystem. Saturday, April 23 – Bugeye Ball: Discover the Sea of Beauty

7:00 p.m. Enjoy an evening of mystical delights with gourmet food, live entertainment, gaming tables, elegant décor, and many other surprises at the Calvert Marine Museum’s Annual Bugeye Ball. All proceeds will support the maintenance of the Wm. B. Tennison. Call 410-326-2042, ext. 16 to reserve tickets today. The Museum is closed for the day.

 

Tuesday, April 26 OtterMania
10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Join us in celebrating our favorite museum mammal!  Dance “the Swim” with our otter mascots, get your face painted, participate in a scavenger hunt, take photos to document our otter’s favorite habits, examine otter stomach contents to see what different otters from around the world eat, and listen to otter tales from an “otterly” terrific story teller. A $2 donation is requested for face painting. Museum admission applies; FREE for CMM members.

 

Thursday, April 28 – Little Minnows

10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Earth Day Celebration! Children 3 to 5 years old will learn about recycling and discover how Earth recycles too.  Discover what compost is and does, and visit the museum’s composting site and rain garden. CMM members are FREE; $5 for non-members (cash only).

The Museum will close at 3:00 p.m. for a private event.
