Serious Motor Vehicle Collision involving a CCSO unmarked patrol vehicle

calvert county sheriffs officeOn November 11, 2014 at approximately 1752 hours members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Bureau responded to the intersection of North Prince Frederick Boulevard and Allnutt Court, Prince Frederick, Maryland 20678 for a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a Calvert County Sheriff’s Office vehicle.

Upon arrival units located a 2013 Toyota Corolla with heavy damage to the left side of the vehicle.   Also on the scene was a 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe, an unmarked Calvert County Sheriff’s Office vehicle, with front end damage.  Both vehicles were located in the northbound lane of North Prince Frederick Boulevard, against the east curb.

Due to the nature of the collision Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team assumed the investigation of this collision.  Preliminary investigation revealed that the 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe, operated by Deputy First Class Roscoe T. Kreps 3rd, was traveling southbound on North Prince Frederick Boulevard approaching Allnutt Court.  A 2013 Toyota Corolla, operated by Viral Dharamshidshi Patel, a 30 year old male of Prince Frederick, entered North Prince Frederick Boulevard from Allnutt Court in an attempt to continue northbound and was struck by the Tahoe on the left side of the vehicle, in a right angle type of collision (t-bone).  Toyota was also occupied by a front seat passenger identified as Jitewdra Mehta, a 65 year old male of Prince Frederick.

As a result of the collision Patel sustained serious injuries and was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.  Mehta was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital in critical and unstable condition and was transferred to MedStar Washington Hospital Center via MedStar helicopter.  At the time of this press release Mehta remains in critical condition, but has been stabilized.  DFC Kreps was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

The causation and contributing circumstances of this collision are pending a full investigation by the Crash Reconstruction Team.  Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has any information regarding this crash is asked to contact Sgt. V. Bortchevsky of the Crash Reconstruction Team at [email protected] or by calling Calvert County Sheriff’s Office at 410-535-2800.
