Troopers and Deputies from Calvert County

Work together to prevent impaired drivers

MD State Police- sobriety checkpointThe Maryland State Police Prince Frederick Barrack conducted a Sobriety Check on Friday August 22, 2014. The check point was an intense enforcement initiative targeting drivers who were operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs in Calvert County.

This sobriety check point was a combined effort between the Maryland State Police, the Calvert Sheriff’s Office and the State Highway Administration. The location of the check point was on Rt. 260 just east of the American Legion in Chesapeake Beach. The check pointed started at approximately 2024 hours and ran for two hours ending just after 2225 hours on Friday August 22, 2014. Where the total number of vehicles stopped at the check point was 510. Out of the 510 vehicles stopped, six vehicles were pulled to the side of the road for standardized field sobriety testing and one was pulled to the side for a probable cause search. Two drivers were arrested for driving under the influence and one driver was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

The check point was a success with the amount of drivers we affected and social media was very active within minutes of our check point starting. Please remember to always drive sober and have a designated driver available.
